Litigation and Trial Practice
The Litigation Department at Rome McGuigan, P.C. brings distinct capabilities and benefits to its clients in Connecticut and throughout the country. Our extensive investigative skills combined with substantial trial experience and carefully crafted strategies consistently enable us to achieve positive results in federal and state courts, administrative agencies and alternative dispute forums. So unusual is our combined expertise that we are often asked by law firms across the country to serve as special counsel for investigations, trial preparation and litigation strategy.
While many of our clients hire us in response to a crisis, we also develop methods to help them avoid future litigation. We regularly advise our clients on preventive measures, establish follow-up procedures to ensure compliance and provide ongoing guidance.
The twenty litigation lawyers at Rome McGuigan, P.C. are different from those in other law firms. Several of the principals have held legal positions in the government, investigating and trying cases for the State of Connecticut. This hands-on investigative and trial experience in the public sector enables our Litigation Department to serve our clients better: to identify issues, cut through layers and apply the right strategic approaches to resolve disputes and to achieve results.
Our efficiency in staffing matters and the agility with which we analyze situations are greatly enhanced by technology-driven approaches. We have designed and utilize a state-of-the-art computer system which, among other significant benefits, enables us to perform "real time depositions" and on-the-spot information retrieval and research. A deposition could be conducted anywhere in the world while Rome McGuigan, P.C. lawyers follow the testimony and transmit comments directly to the deposition site. Our use of technology reduces time spent researching cases and improves our ability to bring our back-up documentation on site for clients, judges and counsel to access immediately.
Several of our lawyers gained experience and trial credentials while serving as:
- Chief State's Attorney
- Chief Prosecutor, Statewide Organized Crime Task Force

Each client is assigned a senior principal who, together with the client, assesses each matter and, taking into account the risks, client objectives and budget, puts together a team and an approach most likely to accomplish those objectives. We communicate frequently with our clients to keep them informed of the status of cases and to involve them in deciding the next tactics to employ.
As evidence of their proficiency and commitment to their field, our firm is a member of The Network of Trial Lawyers, Inc. and our lawyers are members of the International Association of Prosecutors, National Board of Trial Advocacy, Panel of Arbitrators for both the American Arbitration Association and Dispute Resolution, Inc., the National District Attorneys Association, the Board of American Prosecutors Research Institute, the Connecticut Defense Attorneys Association, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
